Politika i institucionalna podrška UNDP-a za planiranje i politiku prilagođavanja klimatskim promjenama pruža se kroz procese pripreme Nacionalnog plana adaptacije (NAP) u zemljama u razvoju, uključujući najmanje razvijene zemlje (LDC). NAP proces se sprovodi u integrisanom pristupu koji se povezuje sa NDC i doprinosi klimatskom obećanju UNDP-a. U osnovi NAP-a je posvećenost uključivanju klimatskih rizika na svim nivoima razvoja – lokalnom, nacionalnom, regionalnom i globalnom. UNDP podržava zemlje da postignu ciljeve iz člana 7 o adaptaciji u Pariskom sporazumu u vezi sa planiranjem adaptacije. Proces NAP-a je prvobitno uspostavljen u okviru Kankunskog okvira prilagođavanja. On omogućava Stranama da formulišu i sprovode nacionalne planove prilagođavanja (NAP) kao sredstvo za identifikaciju srednjoročnih i dugoročnih potreba za prilagođavanjem.
